Induction Programme of Engineering Students of Shail Group of Institutions

Adapting to life at an engineering college both socially and academically can be a challenge. This is specially so as large number of freshers are from semi-urban and rural areas having studied in vernacular languages. Change in language of studies from Hindi to English and also a change in culture may make them feel disorientated. For others simply living away from home in a new environment without their friends or usual sources of support can be equally unsettling.
To achieve academic potential, a fresher needs to fully engage with the course, with peers and with the faculty. A well planned induction programme can provide opportunities for the new student to feel part of a group and to gain confidence in his new environment.
Over 1100 students of engineering stream of Indore Institute of Science & Technology (I & II) were inducted into the academic environment on 13th Oct, 2012 in a gala ceremony. Prof V C Gupta, Principal, IIST; Dr. Shilpa Tripathi, Principal, IIST II and Deans of faculty invoked the blessings of Goddess Saraswati by igniting the lamp of wisdom. Both the Principals charted the path for students to successfully wade through the rigors of four years of engineering course. The freshers were informed about the visionary approach of our beloved Chairman, Shri Rohit Jainendra Jain who has nurtured the fledgling college into a modern multi-disciplinary academic institution of excellence in just about 6 years. Besides excellence in academics, Shail Group of Institutions provides comprehensive programme in personality development to all students all through the four years. The students are continuously exposed to the corporate environment by organizing visits to industrial houses and through workshops/seminars on cutting edge technology.
Each of the newly inducted students introduced themselves and highlighted their strengths. There is no dearth of talent in the freshers which will eventually enrich Shail Group of Institutions in the long term.

63rd Republic Day Celebration at SGI
iist
We commemorate Republic Day as the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on 26th Jan 1950. SGI celebrated the 63rd Republic Day by paying tribute to the National Flag followed by two minutes of silence in memory of unknown soldiers. Dr S R Lapalikar, Director, School of Engineering unfurled the National Flag as National Anthem was sung by a group of staff. The saluting by the security guards added color to the somber occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapalikar called upon all staff and students to emulate the ideals of freedom fighters. Engineers and other professionals have a great role to play in developing the future of our society. Students must put in hard work and excel in their respective field. He complimented and distributed sports kit to students who have won laurels in national and state level sports events.

iistTo add color to the occasion, host of activities such as tug of war, musical chair and kite flying were organized and enthusiastically participated by one and all. A league-cum-knock out limited over cricket match evoked huge response. The match was finally won by Indore Institute of Science & Technology (II) under the leadership of Prof S B Batra. The multi-colored kites filled the sky and gave another dimension to the celebration. The laurel of best kite flier went to Ms Neha Gupta. Ms Reena proved her mettle in dodging 50 other participants and bagged the first prize in Musical Chair. Over 100 prizes were distributed to best performers of various events. Rubella Immunization at SGI

Large number of young women of child bearing age of our country run the risk of infection before conception and in early pregnancy stages which may result in miscarriage, fetal death or congenital defect. This is due to a mild viral disease called Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) which gets transmitted in air borne droplets when infected people sneeze or cough.

Shail Group of Institutions took the initiative of administering Rubella Vaccine to 170 young women staff and students as a welfare measure. Mr. Manoj Bhambrey, President, Rotary Club, Indore was present in the function. Dr. Neerja Pauranik, Gynaecologist, MY Hospital and Dr. Sachin Gothi, Gynaecologist, MY Hospital took their time out to offer their medical guidance and motivated girls to overcome the fear of injection. Ms. Aruna Patil, Welfare Officer, SGI coordinated the event.

Shail Educational & Welfare Society : Foundation Day Celebration

Discovery of our dreams and reaching them tangibly is evolution and growth. Immediately after graduation in Computer Science & Engineering from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Pune and MBA from Symbiosis, young Shri Rohit Jainendra Jain promised to himself not to tread the beaten path but dreamt of setting up world class professional institutions. He could see that Indore will be the future educational hub. In 2002, Shail Educational & Welfare Society (SEWS) was registered which today comprises of Indore Institute of Science & Technology, Indore Institute of Science & Technology (II), Indore Institute of Pharmacy, Indore Institute of Computer Applications and Indore Institute of Management & Research.

The campus is being developed as a college-township with sports facility, gym, swimming pool, grocery store, stationary shop, multi-cuisine canteen, hostel for boys & girls, staff quarter, et al. All around perimeter wall with 24x7 security makes it an enviable place to study and live-in

Institutional diversity has been fully complimented by creating top class facilities which can be compared at par with the best in the country. Smart Campus, an educational ERP integrates all functions of the institution and makes available relevant information to staff, students and their parents through information kiosk. The campus is Wi-Fi compatible besides having broadband Internet connectivity. Computerized language laboratory of each institution helps students to hone their communication skills. Smart classrooms are coming up for intensive interactive learning, video conferencing.

Physical education and sports play a vital role in achieving the aims and objectives of education. SGI provides excellent facilities and encourages students to take part in tournaments held throughout MP. The campus has ground for all major outdoor games like football, cricket and volleyball. Basketball and lawn tennis are played on a synthetic court which was inaugurated by Mahesh Bhupathi. Indoor games include Chess, Caroms, TT, Croquet and Golf. Gymnasium, health centers and swimming pool are coming up. Considering the quality of sports infrastructure, RGPV has nominated SGI as the nodal centre of five sports for the year 2012.

It is a known fact that over 70% of fresh engineering graduates are not immediately employable due to a gap in the skill-set as required by the industry. SGI has taken a note of this and signed a collaborative agreement with corporates like Microsoft, Oracle, IBM to impart required skills to bridge the gap. In house PD trainers profile each student from the very first year and progressively train them in various life skills. The result has started showing as is evident from the accreditation accorded by corporates like TCS, Essar. More accreditation is forth coming.

Each of the five institutions was established as a standalone one. There is always scope for optimization of scarce recourses. AICTE’s approval has been accorded to convert the existing institutions into an integrated campus. Re-modeling is on which will bring in economy of scale and utilization of recourses.

Shail Group of Institution is moving on a planned growth path to finally emerge as Shail University. This will give it the required autonomy for creating synergy between education & research and synergy between science & engineering. Industrially relevant and mission oriented R&D, impacting the community with innovative solutions to pressing problems, Shail University will pave the way to excel in education and research.

The foundation day of the group was celebrated on 20 Nov 2011 in the sprawling lush green campus at Indore. Shri Rohit Jainendra Jain, Chairman, Shail Group in his address complimented all faculty members, students and other stake holders for their dedication in making the group famous for its top class professional institutions in a short span of eight years. The i mpressive guest list included corporate bigwigs, principals of eminent schools, alumni, staff and students.

'Journey towards Excellence’, a light and sound show, traced the history of the society from the time of inception to its present glory. This was followed by performance of students who enthralled the audience with song and dance. Instrumental jugal bandhi by Jalaj Group was the hallmark of the cultural programme. Sumptuous dinner marked the end of the programme.

Mr Rishi Neema coordinated the event, and Ms Supriya and Ms Anubha compared with grace and élan.
